A record number of 31 players showed up for the 6th edition of our yearly tournament. Tournament format was Swiss, 6 rounds, 5-point matches.

1. Toon Van Herreweghen (6/6)
2. Leonidas Sotiriadis (5/6)
3. Michel Lamote (5/6)

Congratulations to Toon for his second Leuven Open victory! (He also won the first edition, in 2009.) Leonidas and Michel each had 5 victories. Leonidas was ranked above Michel on the basis of the scores of the players against whom both players won.

Apart from the traditional "Champagne !" prizes (free prize if you managed to dance with a double 6 from the bar against a one-point board), Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie accompagnied some of the players along the tournament: each round, they stayed or went to the winner of the first game of the match of the current owner. Starting with Liliane, they travelled in this way to Louis and Walter, to end up finally with Toon, who kept them until the end.

Highlight of the day was Michel Lamote's inspiring talk "Luck or Skill?". You can still enjoy the slides (pdf) of his talk.

Liévin and his mother Simonne prepared a delicious lunch, serving traditional pea soup, hamburgers, and grilled potatoes and vegetables.

From the revenues from our club's YouTube channel pdwu2b, managed by Patrick, the club offered a money prize of 100 euros to the winner, Toon. Logistic support by the Provincie Vlaams-Brabant is gratefully acknowledged. Please keep watching and liking our videos!
