1. Tournament format

The tournament format on a given evening depends on the number of players that show up:

  • 4-7 players: round Robin (RR)
  • 8+ players: main/conso/last-chance (M/C/LC)

For details, see the corresponding tournament sheets.

2. Championship points

For each tournament, the number of Championship Points (CP) to be earned is proportional to the number of participants, N, according to the following table.

N format Match length CP 1st CP 2nd CP 3rd CP 4th CP 5th
4RR73010
5RR53515
6RR34020
7RR3402010
8+M/C/LC5/3/14*N2*N2*NNN

In addition, all participants receive 2 Championship Points for their presence, including the players that already won points due to their results.

3. Ties

In Round Robin tournaments, ties are broken (if possible) by mutual results. If the tie cannot be broken in this way, the Championship Points are shared.

Ties in the Championship Point ranking are broken according to the following criteria, in decreasing order of importance:

  1. number of tournament victories;
  2. number of tournament participations;
  3. mutual result, i.e. number of matches won or lost between two players;
  4. sum of lengths of matches won;
  5. beauty contest.

4. Forfait

If a player gives forfait during a tournament, then the following rules apply:

  • In a Round Robin tournament, the results of that player are cancelled completely.
  • In a M/C/LC tournament, the tournament continues, the player losing all his or her subsequent matches. However, the matches won in this way by his or her opponents do not count for the tie-breaking criteria above.

5. Late arrivals

People arriving after 20h15 can only participate if they have warned the Tournament Director in advance (e.g. by phone) that they intend to come.

No problem for people arriving late but before 20h30.

After 20h30: if the person arriving late does not have a bye in the first round, then his or her opponent gets 1 point in the match plus 1 extra point for every complete block of 5 minutes after 20h30; if the person arriving late has a bye in the first round, the previous rule applies, but now counting from the moment that the 2nd round match would have been started if the person would have been in time.

After 20h45: the person gives forfait in the tournament. (Of course, he or she is still welcome to play and have a nice evening.)

6. Final rulings

The tournament is to be conducted in a spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.

In all cases not covered by these rules, the Tournament Director's decision applies.
